Diamonds are the most preferred metal for wedding ring, though there are still people practicing the tradition of gold ring and family ring. Apart from this, there are people who also wish to make wedding ring with gemstones studded in it.

Gems or gemstones are nothing but mineral crystals. Diamond itself is one of the gemstone. Emeralds, sapphires, rubies are some of the commonly known gemstones. Usually gemstones are priced high and somewhat costly to afford.

Gem is a mineral with style and durability. It is polished and used for ornamentation purpose. It is said that gemstones have the ability to cure some disease and can do some miracles with health. The habit of adding gems to wedding ring came into existence in middle age. Each type of gem has different colors. Usually these colors reflect the natural elements which are much essential for us. The green color of emeralds resembles the plant life, rubies for blood color, and sapphires give the color of sky.

When the color is chosen for the need and requirement it may not serve the purpose fully but if it is chosen after a slight research type of work, then the gems prove their worthiness. There are some other advantages with gemstones while compared to other metals such as pearls, opals, etc. Gems are hard and have long durability. Pearls disintegrate even if you try to wipe off the dust in them.

But this is not the case with the gemstones. Even a room spray or body spray damage the pearls. Opals also suffer the same type problems and another important thing with opals is they are temperature dependent. A sudden change in temperature can damage them. Considering these factors it is quite evident that gemstones are price worthy.
