Fluorescence in Diamonds

Brides feel happier when they put on Diamonds than Gold. If you are a bridegroom, try gifting a diamond ornament to your bride and see how happy she turns out. That will cherish the best moments of your life.

Are you aware of the 4Cs of diamonds – cut, color, clarity and carat weight? Along with this, Diamonds also possess a quality called fluorescence which helps in the evaluation and assessment of Diamonds. This is called photo-luminescence. The cause of a photo-luminescence or fluorescence is caused by specks of boron in the diamond. The fluorescence in diamonds is activated by UV light.

Grading is done by the amount of blue present in the diamonds. The diamonds are classified as None, Faint, Medium, Medium blue, Strong, Strong Blue and Intense Blue according to the amount of blue present in the diamonds. Blue Diamonds were, once upon a time, highly-prized quality in a diamond. The demand for blue-white diamonds was so high.

The blue is indicative of the fluorescence whereas the overall color of the diamond is white on the outer body. This trend, nevertheless, came to an end because customers have started buying colorless white diamonds.

Some of you might want to buy only a blue-white diamond but in that case you must make sure that you examine the completely under a series of tests including that of sunlight and fluorescent light and jeweler’s black light.

Some of the fluorescent quality diamonds can become hazy in the sunlight during the day and a sparkling glow is also possible during nights when even little light reaches the diamonds! Earlier, blue-diamonds were expensive and were of much demand but now white diamonds that are a little translucent have been bought largely. These diamonds have gone expensive as well as rare to be found.

Flawless diamonds called D and other graded diamonds such as G are now sold in prices that are not easily affordable. Grade H diamonds or higher do look good with little fluorescence. Very little of fluorescence can increase the value and attractiveness of your stone because the blue fluorescence can balance other gradations like a yellowish tone.

Some of the diamonds do have yellow or orange fluorescence but the best of diamond jewelry sellers do not recommend these diamonds. But you may also choose a diamond of different hues as orange or blue because the same colored fluorescence will further reinforce and bring more attention to that specific color.

Now, before your wedding, go select a diamond that you want. And gift your bride a fluorescent diamond for her to be the most happiest in her wedding.
