Color is the most important of the 4Cs of diamonds. The color quality of the Diamonds is denoted by letter grades. The letter D means a diamond is flawless and has no color. This leads us to the question of why these quality of diamonds are denoted with D instead of C, B, or A?
When diamonds were first graded in terms of their color, it was intended to accommodate some rare found diamonds that would exceed the flawlessness of the currently flawless diamonds because in this world there are so many things still left undiscovered. Well, of course, such a diamond has not been found yet.

Gradations and Color Denotations of Diamonds
Grades D, E and F:
Grades such as D, E and F are found to be the rarest and are hardly of any color. The color gradations and variations can be detected by expert gemologists alone.
Grades G and H:
Near colorless diamonds are called G and H Diamonds which means that there is possibility of some colors in them. The difference can be comparatively known when compared to a D, E and F Diamond. This gradation relatively can be evident to a layman on comparison. Stones belonging to this category are said to be of great value.
Grades I and J:
I and J also belong to the near colorless category like the G and H. Their value is also higher.
Grades K-Z:
The gradation in color moves till Z, where the color increases along with the progression of the alphabets towards Z.
These types of diamonds are called as less quality inferior gemstones and it is not one such as canary or any other colored diamonds.
Colored diamonds go for a good price amidst collectors of diamonds. The grading of colored diamonds is different when compared to how white diamonds are graded. Combinations do work out well and colors look good with white diamonds if they are juxtaposed with each other. Co Hope Diamond is one of the most famous diamonds which have a rich blue color. You may get diamonds of all colors but only one color is rare and that is red diamonds.
How do Diamonds get colors
The Diamonds crystals have cells which may have impurities between them. There may be some structural defects also. These may cause colors in diamonds. Diamonds are available on colors such as blue, black, red, purple, pink, steel gray, white, orange, green etc.
